Community Outreach — 8th Annual Drive

For eight years, Vehicles for Christ Outreach has shown up for the men, women, and children experiencing homelessness across Washington, D.C. What began as a single donation bin inside a local gym has grown into an annual outreach event now reaching 200+ people each winter — and in 2026, we became a registered nonprofit, ready to formalize and grow the work we've been doing since day one.

The Need

For someone sleeping outside, winter isn't just uncomfortable — it's dangerous. Without a blanket, a pair of dry socks, or basic hygiene supplies, a cold night can mean frostbite, illness, or worse. Food isn't guaranteed. Access to clean clothing and hygiene products isn't guaranteed. For many, even being seen and acknowledged isn't guaranteed.

The Drive

Each December, our team collects blankets, socks, hats, gloves, coats, hygiene kits, and monetary donations from the community — then personally delivers them directly to people experiencing homelessness throughout D.C. This isn't a drop-off event; it's a hands-on, in-person outreach, often in partnership with local businesses like Panera to provide hot food alongside physical supplies. Every item collected goes straight to someone who needs it.

The Vision

What started in one gym with one flyer has become a sustained, trusted presence in the D.C. community. Our goal is to keep growing — expanding the drive into additional cities, building permanent donation sites, and recruiting year-round volunteers so this work isn't limited to one weekend a year, but a continuous commitment to the people who need it most.
